Cooktops FAQ

Select a question below to view the answer:

  • To register your Cooktop, simply visit electroluxicon.com, call Electrolux at 1-877-4 ELECTROLUX, or drop your product registration card in the mail.
    • You will need to know your model number and serial number, which can be found on the serial plate located under the Cooktop (electric and induction) or under the burner box (gas). This information can also be found on your product registration card.
    • You will also need to know the date of product purchase shown on your receipt.
Tip: It’s always a good idea to record your Cooktop’s model, serial number, and the date of purchase, as well as to save your receipt.
  • With its remarkable range of configurations and options, the Electrolux ICON® Cooktop Collection offers almost limitless possibilities. Full Induction Cooktops provide powerfully efficient induction elements, offering more responsive cooking, exceptional temperature control, and more energy efficiency. Induction Hybrid Cooktops combine two powerfully efficient induction elements with up to three electric elements to give you ultimate versatility and the latest technology – all within a sophisticated, smooth-top surface. Gas Cooktops have long been the favorite of home and commercial chefs due to their powerful heat and quick, precise temperature control. The Min-2-Max® burner goes from 18,000 to 450 BTUs – offering the widest performance range in the industry. Electric Cooktops adapt to any size or type of cookware featuring a flat bottom while offering a sleek, glass ceramic cooking surface.
  • With faster, more responsive heating, more energy-efficient cooking and easier cleaning, induction takes cooking to a whole new level. It combines the benefits of Gas and Electric Cooktops – merging with the power of gas with the easy cleanup of electric. Using electromagnetic energy, heat is transferred directly to the cookware, so the Cooktop remains cooler. And induction allows for more precise control when cooking – you can instantly adjust the heat to a delicate simmer or bring it to a quick boil.
  • Electrolux ICON® Induction Hybrid Cooktops include a combination of electric elements that are compatible with all flat-bottom cookware and induction elements that are compatible with most metallic cookware. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pot or pan, it will work with induction cookware. Cookware made of aluminum, copper, or glass (including Pyrex) is not compatible with an Induction Cooktop. In addition, some types of stainless steel may not work on an induction surface, or may heat very slowly. Tip: Do not let your pots or pans boil dry. Doing so may cause permanent damage to a ceramic Cooktop (breakage, fusion, or marring that is not covered by your warranty).
  • There are many factors that can affect cooking, but you can help ensure best results by following these recommendations:
    • Use heavier, high-quality cookware that is suitable for Induction Cooktops. High-quality cookware that is heavier and has a flat bottom will help your food cook more evenly.
    • Use the correct size cookware. The two induction cooking zones available on the Cooktop require a specific pan size to be used at each location. The inner ring of each cooking zone is your guide to the correct minimum pan size. The pan bottom must fully cover the inner ring for proper cooking to occur. The thicker outer ring each cooking zone is helpful to determine the maximum pan size.
    • Adjust the recipe's suggested temperature or cooking time. Your Induction Cooktop provides exceptional temperature control that allows you to adjust heat with greater accuracy than Gas or Electric Cooktops, especially at lower settings. Perfect for melting chocolate and cooking delicate foods and sauces.
  • For your safety, there are a few conditions that will cause your Cooktop to automatically turn off, including:
    • Fluids have spilled onto the Cooktop, or an object is lying on its control area. Simply clean any spills or remove any objects, then turn your Cooktop back on.
    • Your Cooktop has been in use continuously for more than 12 hours. Sensing this extended use will cause the Cooktop to turn off.
  • If your Induction Cooktop control is flashing an “F,” it could be because:
    • The Cooktop is not sensing compatible cookware. Our Induction Cooktops are compatible with most cookware you might use – if a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pot or pan, it will work.
    • Cookware was removed from the Cooktop, but the Cooktop wasn’t turned off. If this is the case, place the pot or pan back on the Cooktop or, if you’re finished cooking, simply turn off the Cooktop.
    • The cookware isn’t centered over the element.
    • The cookware is the incorrect size.
  • If your Induction Cooktop doesn’t seem to be heating, it might be because:
    • You need to check the placement of your cookware. If you have an Induction Cooktop, be sure that the bottom of your pot or pan is large enough for the cooking zone you’re using, and that it is centered on it.
    • Your cookware isn’t compatible with an Induction Cooktop. Our Induction Cooktop surfaces are compatible with most cookware you might use—if a magnet sticks to the bottom of your pot or pan, it will work on an Induction Cooktop.
    • No cookware was placed on your Induction Cooktop. If you’re using an Induction Cooktop, it will not turn on unless a pot or pan has been placed on it.
    • The Cooktop’s control needs to be adjusted. Make sure the right control is turned on for the element you’re using, and that the setting isn’t too low. (Try turning it to a slightly higher setting until the element turns on.)
    • The wiring is not complete. Contact your local dealer, installing agent, or authorized service provider, or contact Electrolux ICON® at 1-877-4 ELECTROLUX.
  • If you see an “E” and two digits, it means that the Cooktop has detected a condition it needs to check. To help correct this, try the following recommendations:
    • Reset the Cooktop’s main controls by turning the power to your Cooktop off, and then back on.
    • Be sure that the time of day is set. The time must be set in order for the Cooktop to operate.
If you continue to see the “E,” record the number and turn the power supply back off. Then contact your dealer, installing agent, or authorized service provider, or contact Electrolux ICON® at 1-877-4 ELECTROLUX.
  • Prior to using your Cooktop for the first time, apply the recommended Cooktop cleanser to the surface and buff using a nonabrasive cloth or pad. The special Cooktop cleansing cream leaves a protective finish that helps prevent scratches and abrasions. To further prevent scratches on your Cooktop surface:
    • Be sure that the Cooktop and any pots, pans, or utensils you use are clean. If coarse particles (such as salt) come between your Cooktop and utensils, scratches can result.
    • Use pots and pans that have a smooth, flat bottom.
    • Use cleaning materials that are recommended for ceramic/glass Cooktops.
Any small scratches that occur will not affect your Cooktop’s performance, and will become less visible over time.
  • Discoloration that has a metallic sheen can be caused by mineral deposits from water and food. You can help prevent it by using cookware with a clean and dry bottom surface, and you can remove it with a ceramic/glass Cooktop cleansing cream.
  • Brown streaks, spots, or other marks are most likely caused by food boiling over and then being cooked onto your oven’s surface. You can remove them by carefully using a razor blade to scrape them off. Tip: Prior to using your Cooktop for the first time, apply the recommended Cooktop cleanser to the surface and buff using a nonabrasive cloth or pad. This will make future cleanup of food easier, and the special Cooktop cleansing cream leaves a protective finish that helps prevent scratches.
  • If your Cooktop’s electric burners don’t turn on, check the following:
    • The control. Be sure to the use correct control for the element needed and ensure that it is ON.
    • The heat setting. Turn the control to a slightly higher setting until the element comes on.
    • Power to appliance. Reset the Cooktop by turning the breaker off and on again.
    • Your electricity source. If a power outage has occurred, you might want to call your local electric company.
If the burners still do not turn on then contact your dealer, installing agent, or authorized service provider, or contact Electrolux ICON® at 1-877-4 ELECTROLUX.
  • Designed with a dual-flame, sealed burner, this Cooktop offers the widest range of BTU performance in the industry, for the utmost versatility – from a roaring 18,000-BTU boil to a gentle 450-BTU simmer so you can easily go from simmer to boil.
  • If your burner is only partially lit, it could be because it is clogged. Be sure to turn the burner off, then use a small-gauge wire or needle to clean its openings. A partial flame might also be caused by moisture remaining in the burner after it has been cleaned. If you think this might be the case, lightly fan the flame and allow the burner to operate until the flame is full.
  • If your Cooktop’s burners don’t light, check the following:
    • The control knob. Be sure the control knob is completely turned on. Push it in and turn it to “Light” until the burner ignites, then turn the knob to the desired flame level.
    • The burners. Check your burners for clogs. Be sure to turn them off, then use a small-gauge wire or needle to clean their openings.
    • Your electricity source. If a power outage has occurred, you might want to call your local electric company.
If the burners still do not light, contact your dealer, installing agent, or authorized service provider, or contact Electrolux ICON® at 1-877-4 ELECTROLUX.
  • If you have cast-iron grates, follow these steps:
    • Wash the grates in the dishwasher.
    • Coat the grates with a thin layer of cooking oil.
    • Bake the grates in the oven on 350˚F for 10 minutes.
If you have porcelain-coated grates, simply place them in the dishwasher and coat any unfinished areas with a thin layer of cooking oil after washing.
  • You may see references for drop-in and slide-in Cooktops – drop-in Cooktops fit into a cutout or hole in your countertop and the controls are on the top while slide-in Cooktops have controls on the front and usually offer more burners and/or higher performance burners on the top.
  • You might see an orange flame if there are dust particles in your main gas line. Simply turn your burner on for a few minutes, until the flame turns blue. Note: In coastal areas, it is normal to regularly see a flame that is slightly orange. This is caused by the salt in the air.
